For 3 Sundays during the Month of February indoor halls across the North West have been filled with young hurlers from Donegal, Derry and Tyrone competing in the annual North West Indoor hurling tournament for Under 12s.
The game played is 5-a-side indoor hurling where players score by shooting against the basketball backboards at either side of the hall. It's all action, fast paced stuff, where players are forced to move the ball quickly in the relatively tight surroundings.
19 Clubs, 36 teams and around 200 hurlers in all took part this year, 8 teams from Derry, 7 from Donegal and 3 from Tyrone. The first 2 Sundays were used as grading weeks for the final Sunday where teams were put into groups of 4 and the finals played off. We had 9 finals groupings played on Sunday 23rd February. The groupings for the finals are below, the winning team from each group is in Capital Letters:

A word of thanks must go to all the clubs who took part in the competition. Hopefully the players involved will have developed their skills over the past few weeks and it will act as a good platform for teams to develop further during the rest of the season. Overall the standard of hurling was very good with a lot of fine individual talent on display. It all bodes well for the future of hurling in the region. Congratulations to the winners of the respective groups.
