ULSTER HURLING DEVELOPMENT SQUAD TOURNAMENT

The Derry hurling development squads were in action on Saturday past, the 3rd of August. The Ulster hurling development squad blitzes took place at the impressive new Tyrone GAA centre in Garvaghy. At under 14 level we had 2 teams competing, with one team at under 16 level.

Under 14 coaches Joe Passmore, Joe Young and Brendan Quigley were very impressed with how the under charges acquitted themselves on the day. The A – team finished in second place behind a very strong Antrim team despite missing a few key players on the day.

The Under 16 squad remained unbeaten all day to win their section. Coaches John Dwyer, Dermot Doherty and Padraig Groogan were again very happy with the performance of their team.

Both squads will now be building towards the All Ireland tournament to be held in Newry at the end of August. The high quality of players representing Derry at the weekend is testament to the continued hard work going on in the clubs to develop hurling. Hopefully this will be reflected again with some silverware at the All Ireland tournaments!
