Barry McNamee was an award winner at the Donegal Sports Awards last night, picking up the Soccer Award for his performances in 2013.
McNamee played over thirty times for the Candystripes last season in a variety of position and scored five goals including a memorable free kick against Shamrock Rovers early in the season. McNamee also experienced European football for the first time, featuring in both legs of the ties against Turkish side Trabzonspor.
Barry’s performances were recognised outside of the Brandywell regulars, with the Donegal man being called up by Republic of Ireland U-21 boss Noel King into the U-21 squad during the course of the season. His consistent performances also caght the attention of clubs across the water and McNamee spent time with Brentford in November 2013.
The Donegal Sports Awards have been running for thirty eight years and recognise the sporting excellence of those from the county. The gala awards function was held in the Mount Errigal Hotel last night with over 500 guests in attendance, including FAI Chief Executive John Delaney.
