With three points from the opening two games of their Division One campaign, a delighted Brian McIver spoke to DerryGAA.ie:
“I felt it was a very well deserved result to be honest. We were the better side of the course of the seventy plus minutes and merited the win,” said the Derry manager.
“The team performed really well for the majority of the game. I thought Fergal Doherty had a mighty second half and Patsy alongside him gave everything for the cause as usual.
“Up front Emmett McGuckin took a massive score at a vital stage for us. You had Enda Lynn, Sean Leo and James Kielt all chipping in at vital times and all working hard. It was a great team performance all round.
“It’s a big, big victory for this team and another step in right direction. We were disappointed not to win against Tyrone but have put that behind us and beaten another of last year’s All-Ireland semi-finalists.”
McIver was impressed not only with performers on the pitch but with the attitude of the Derry players after the game, explaining:
“What impressed me most, however, is that immediately after the game it was the players who identified the need for ‘feet on ground’. It’s only February and it’s the league but these are important games for us and games we wanted to win.
“I would like to commend the Derry supporters on being top class today. It’s a long way to come to support the team. Hopefully, we gave them something to make the journey home seem that little bit shorter.”
