Kehoe Cup semi-final: Meath 0-21 Derry 0-12.
Derry senior hurlers’ attentions will now be firmly focused on the National League following today’s defeat away to Meath in Leinster’s Kehoe Cup semi-final.
On a day in which the home side led from start to finish, the first half sending off of captain Ruairi Convery was pivotal. Leading 0-05 to 0-01 after only ten minutes, and with Derry scoring only from placed balls (Convery, Cleary and Grant), the Meath men took a four point lead into the break (0-10 to 0-06).
With the loss of Convery, the hill was too steep for the Oak Leafers to climb as the Royals ran out comfortable winners in the end.
Rogan’s men now have two weeks to prepare for the visit of Kerry to Owenbeg on 16 Feb. Having blooded young players like Johnny O’Dwyer and Stefan McCloskey, Ger Rogan will be keen to see his side develop throughout the league campaign.
Derry scorers: Ruairi Convery 0-02 (2f), S McCloskey 0-01; J O’Dwyer 0-01; A Grant 0-06 (5f); P McCloskey 0-1; P Cleary 0-01 (1f).
