City awarded U-19 Northern Division title

faiDerry’s U19 side have been awarded the Northern Division U-19 title as they were retrospectively awarded three points from the final game of the season against Finn Harps.  The Ballybofey side were found to have fielded an ineligible player in the fixture, which ended 1-1, and the victory has been awarded to the Candystripes.

The three points mean that Derry leapfrog above Dundalk and claim the Northern Division for the 2013/14 side.

City and Dundalk have both qualified for the promotion play off group, where they joined Limerick and Mervue United from the Southern Division.  The four sides play off over three rounds of games in order to try and finish in the top two of the group.  The two sides at the end of the group will gain promotion to the Elite Division.

City got their campaign underway at the weekend with a draw away to Dundalk, the game finishing 1-1 at Oriel Park.  Whilst the award of the Northern title has no impact on placing in the PPG.  However the title will be celebrated by the squad who have worked hard all season and have seen their efforts rewarded, clinching the title.
