League points the target for Devine

Derry City v Bray Wanderers, 7.45pm, Brandywell

Having relinquished their hold on the Ford FAI Cup last weekend, City’s only remaining target is for league points and chance of a European spot.  The first hurdle in that aim comes in the shape of Bray Wanderers this Friday evening.

The Wicklow outfit have themselves been on a bad run of form with their last win in the league as far back as the 9th of June. For the Candystripes they have now lost three league games in a row but can draw some comfort from the fact they have beaten Bray on the two previous occasions they have meet this season.  However the continuing disappointing results and performances in front of the Brandywell crowd means that it is imperative that the side get back up and running on Friday.

Speaking ahead of the game Declan Devine had this to say.”This is a game that we need to be in the right frame of mind for, Bray are coming here to Derry fighting for their lives and with some quality players in their squad they can cause any team real problems. We know our home form hasn’t been anywhere near good enough this season, but we get a chance on Friday to set that straight as we try to salvage a European place for next season.”
Derry will be without the services of Barry McNamee and Ryan McBride through suspension, while Stewart Greacen (knee) Kevin Deery (knee) and Tomas Crawley (Groin) and on the long term injury list with Sean Houston(ankle) Dean Jarvis (knee) and PatrickMcEleney(Foot) all struggling to prove their fitness for the game.
