AIB Ulster Senior Club Hurling Championship semi-final: Slaughtneil 4-18 Lisbellaw (Fermanagh) 0-07
Derry hurling champions Slaughtneil booked a place in the Ulster hurling final thanks to a comfortable win over Fermanagh champions, Lisbellaw, at Dungannon yesterday.
Whilst each member of the Slaughtneil forward unit got on the scoresheet, it was full-forward Brendan Rogers who repeated his points tally (2-03) from the county final, notching three goals against a faltering Lisbellaw challenge.
Slaughtneil got off to a blistered start with Oisin O’Doherty scrambling home the first of Slaughtneil’s goals after only two minutes. With Gareth O’Kane ever accurate from placed balls, the first of Rogers’ three goals gave the Emmets a commanding 2-10 to 0-05 lead as the first half grew to a close.
The red card issued to Lisbellaw’s Matthew Teague was the signal which marked this game over as a contest after only 3 minutes of the second half.
With Slaughtneil’s defence in no mood to compromise, two further goals from Rogers secured a final meeting with Antrim kingpins Loughgeil Shamrocks on 27th October.
