Pre-season preparation start for Candystripes

It’s been a busy week for the first team squad at the club, with pre-season training starting last Friday.  The new management team have spent the last few days running their eyes over the playing squad, including a number of trialists and non-contract players as they look to make decision on the shape of the squad ahead of the 2014 season.

Roddy Collins spoke in glowing terms of the facilities available to his squad, with the team based in the Vale Centre for this stage of their pre-season preparations.  The squad will also be using facilities in Donegal as part of their build up to the new season, and a number of pre-season friendlies have been arranged to assess the progress of the players ahead of the new season which kicks off on the 7th March.

City are not participating in the Setanta Sports Cup this season and thus these games take on further importance, as they offer the manager and his assistant Peter Hutton the opportunity to assess the fitness and capabilities of the players in match scenarios.

To date the following pre-season games have been organised

  • January 21 – Limavady Utd (A), kick off time TBC;
  • January 28 – Coleraine (A), kick off time TBC;
  • February 7 – Institute (A), Kick off time TBC; and
  • Further friendlies against  Irish Premier Division sides Glenavon and Glentoran have provisionally been organised, dates and kick off times for these have to be confirmed.

As further information on these fixtures are confirmed we will keep you up to date.
