Ireland manager Martin O’Neill bound for City

imageWhilst Derry City may have unsuccessfully tried to sign Martin O’Neill in the late 1980s, the new Ireland boss has agreed to join Derry City for one night only.

O’Neill who was appointed Ireland boss in November 2013, will be one of the high profile guests at the gala dinner to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the historic 1988/89 season, when Derry City lifted all three domestic trophies, in order to clinch a historic domestic treble.

The dinner, to be held at the City Hotel on the 28th of February this year will bring together players and fans to reminisce over that record breaking year as City won all before them to become the only side to win the domestic treble in the modern era.

The Treble squad last got together in 2009 to celebrate the 20th anniversary, when they showed that they could still play a bit despite the advancing years.  The squad, managed by the legendary Jim McLaughlin, managed to defeat a star studded Liverpool legend side in a competitive game in the Brandywell.  It was clear on that occasions that whilst the fitness of both sides was not what it once was, there was a keen determination to win.

O’Neill, pictured above with City directors Peter Wallace and Sean Barrett at the recent SWAI Dinner, has agreed to attend the dinner and with such a star studded guest list it is sure to prove a hit with supporters.  The event will be held in the City Hotel with tables available at £600 or individual places available at £60 a plate.

With the presence of the iconic stars of yesteryear as well as the Ireland manager, there is sure to high demand for tickets so make sure that you don’t miss out on what will be one of the off the field high lights for the 2014 season.

Details for the event are currently being finalised, but if you are interesting purchasing a table to the event, please contact the Derry City office for further information.
